Teams at Glen Abbey United Church
The work of Glen Abbey United Church is to do God’s work in the world. Some of that work is out in the world, some of it is inside the church building. There are opportunities for everyone to get involved, in a big or small way. No-one but you knows how much time you have and what your talents are.
Our governance model is one that empowers our teams to do their work in whatever way seems best to them. Teams are given a mandate and a budget, and they go do the work that needs to be done. It’s a different model from a lot of churches, and it allows you to use your skills the best way you know how; God gave them to you, and it’s up to you to use them.
Here are just some of the teams at Glen Abbey United Church. If any of these interest you, ask Pat (info@glenabbeyunitedchurch.com) or Ted for more information. We’ve kept the team members’ emails off the website in the interests of privacy.
Outreach
The mandate of the Outreach committee is to reach out to help others locally, nationally and internationally, to extend God’s love near and far, care for peopleĀ· and use our gifts generously. Our recent projects have included partnerships with Halton Women’s Place, Wesley Urban Ministries, Roofs for the Roofless, Fareshare Food Bank, Safetynet, and Hope Place.
Refugees
Both in partnership with St. Paul’s United, and as Glen Abbey United acting alone, we have successfully sponsored 4 refugee families, and are actively involved in sponsoring an additional 1 families at this time.
Men’s Group
The focus of the group is camaraderie, and to perform maintenance of our facility. The meetings encompass an early morning coffee and muffins with discussions about a wide range of topics, followed by a morning work bee. The group generally adjourns for a lunch at a local pub.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The shawls are knit using the principle of 3’s representing the Trinity. The concept is to knit God’s love, care and wannth for those in need. The shawl is a symbol of God who holds and comforts you. It is a rewarding experience for both the recipient and the knitter. The pattern and wool are provided or you can choose to donate the wool as a donation-in-kind.
Music Ministry
As well as supporting the congregational hymns and psalm every week, the GAUC choir, under the capable leadership of Yvonne Choi, faithfully provides a variety of anthems to enhance the theme of the services; including singing in Hebrew, and even choreography!
Worship
Sunday morning is the heart of the week at Glen Abbey United. The Worship team ensures the Sanctuary is ready for the Worship service each Sunday morning, and assists Rev. Ted with special services such as Baptism and Communion.
Audio/Video
The A/V team takes care of the Sanctuary audio and projector systems each Sunday. If you’d like to know what we do with those knobs and dials each Sunday morning, we would love to have you join us!
Property
The Property team looks after our physical building to reduce personal liability. Floor to ceiling, wall to wall, the team attends to issues for heat, light, plumbing, and everything else.
